Well, I set out to run 19 miles & wanted to push a 20 because after I made the announcement to all of you that this week was going to be a 44 mile week, I took off 1 day of running because I was so busy & needed to take a break. So, I thought that if I run an extra mile on my long run, I’d feel better.
The night before my long run I had plans to go to bed early & get a good nights rest. For a variety of reasons, that didn’t happen. According to my UP, I got less than 5 hours of sleep. That’s unheard of for me. My average is 7-7 1/2 hours / night. Well, when I got up to do my long run I debated with myself about actually completing the long run this week or pushing it off to next week, but decided to push it out & go for it! I wanted to get out of the house before I changed my mind, so I didn’t do the best job fueling up before hand, but grabbed a couple of oatmeal/coconut cookies & a glass of Nuun & I was off. I packed my pocket with my GU Chomps & set my audiobook on play, turned on my Runkeeper (without the updates), adjusted my visor to the proper placement & was out the door running. No warm up walk for me, after all I was doing a long run, why would I need to warm up with a little walk?
I took my new route, south to Lake Shore Drive & was so pleased to see so many running groups & other runners all trotting along on the same path. I fueled up with a few chomps here & there, stopped for many water breaks ( as I didn’t hydrate enough the night before or in the morning before I left the house). Well, I ran out 10 miles & turned around. I was thrilled with how far 10 miles got me & that I was indeed feeling well. On the way back, I realized I could use more “fuel”, but didn’t have any left (not to self, need more chomps next time). So, I forged ahead. I walked a little before I got home because I was simply wiped out!!! BUT, I finished & I’m so glad I pushed through!
The rest of the day I was absolutely spent. I couldn’t hydrate enough & was simply sluggish. But, I did it & am so proud. Thanks for listening to me boast!
Yesterday was a great a.m. filled with volunteer work & a farmers market run. After all of that was finished, it was time for me to run 4 miles. Well, it was 90 by mid afternoon & I was still a bit wiped, but really wanted to stick to my training plan, so I dressed for my run & went out the door. It was HOT & sunny. Thank goodness I was sporting my Headsweats Visor! When I started running, I felt like Fred Flinstone, just big & clumsy, but after the 1st mile, I loosened up & my body was moving just fine. However, the heat was getting to me. I ran 3 miles & decided to walk/run the last mile home. I was spent & so happy to get home to drink lots of water! The day just continued from there, visiting school (today is the first day back for the boys), errands, errands, dinner, showering, visit from cousins & to bed! It was a good weekend & absolutely exhausting! This week is going to be tough getting back into the back to school routine, 2 open houses, etc. So, I’m off to bed! But before I go to sleep…..
